(I wish Microsoft’s display performed better with polarized sunglasses.) As with every Surface, the Laptop Go’s screen blackens when I use sunglasses. Colors pop and the screen is bright enough to use in direct sunshine. If you’re binge-watching Netflix in bed, you’ll be near the Laptop Go’s screen. Microsoft reps said they chose the resolution as a compromise because laptop users are further from their screens. 15-inch gaming laptops with 1080p screens offer low pixel density but compensate with faster refresh rates and better panels. Since Apple made its high-resolution Retina Display the standard, I haven’t seen that in years. If you lean very close, you can see individual pixels on the Laptop Go’s screen. Its screen is useful, however, it has a serious flaw: With 1,536 by 1,024 pixels, it’s the lowest-resolution Surface display we’ve seen. Laptop Go supports touchscreens, but not Surface Pen. The tall 3:2 aspect ratio makes the display more useable than a 12-inch widescreen there’s more room for reading and working. There’s just enough room for a web browser and note-taking program, perhaps a YouTube window and Twitter. The Surface Go 2’s 10.5-inch screen makes multitasking tough. Surface Laptop Go’s 12.4-inch screen resembles the 12-inch MacBook. (It’s the same weight as Surface Pro 7 with a keyboard case, so my gadget muscle memory is strong.) It’s like an enlarged tablet, not a laptop.

Moving from room to room in my residence made me handle the Laptop Go differently.

This weighs 2.45 pounds, a significant improvement over Microsoft’s 2.8-pound 13-inch Surface Laptop.
